Medigap insurance plans are worth the extra money if you can afford it. Most people I talk to as an agent want to be able to see any doctor or specialists they choose without getting a doctors referral.

Amanda, thanks for the perspective while I realize that budgets and finances are very real factors, id caution people from relying solely on independent caregivers. There are many great independent caregivers but employing them yourself can be complicated and have dangerous hidden costs if something goes wrong. I encourage those with care needs to explore all their options including full service agencies. Most of us in this business operate on very fair margins while offering the service and understanding that is very hard to get from a non employing agency or independent caregivers. The cost of care is crucial but the quality and protection is too. Labor Law, screening, training, and hands on management are all thing that are tough to be good at when you are also dealing with a loved one experiencing challenges.

I am in the exact same boat as you. It's important to take time for yourself as well. I meditate. I have no idea how I could do what I am doing without meditating.

My husband is enrolled in a MA Advantage PFFS that will continue in its current form with increased out of pocket expenses through 2010. The company will offer a PPO plan, but current providers may not accept the plan. Have been advised that the insurance provider would not accept him in a Medigap plan beginning in 2010 because of COPD diagnosis. Current MA Advantage PFFS will be discontinued in 2011. Will he be in a guaranteed transition period to enroll in a Medigap plan due to the current plan will be discontinued?

I would recommend Comforcare. They are the best caregivers in the North Carolina area. They offer charlotte home care, charlotte senior care and many such services. You can visit their website for additional details. I am sure they will be of immense help. Kudos!
